Singing In The Shower

Go From Singing In The Shower, To Singing On A Stage!

If you think back on what you wanted to be when you were little, the odds are that you probably wanted to be famous. Most people have aspirations about wanting to be famous or on TV which is probably due to the phenomena that are the increase of competition shows like American Idol and The Voice… both of which are centered around singing and music.

If you’ve ever been to any karaoke night, you’ve undoubtedly seen some people living out their greatest fantasy on a tiny stage. While it’s usually uncomfortable to watch because of second-hand embarrassment, but every once in a while you’ll go to an open mic where you’ll watch someone perform who won’t be half bad!

Do you want to be that person? Regardless if it’s your dream to tear up a small stage at a coffee shop on every second Friday night for open mic or headline Coachella, you can do it.

Being a musician is hard, but if you even have a shred of talent you can plant that seed, and it can grow! All you have to do is practice.

That’s where we come in! This blog is run by Sarah and Sandra. We’re musical siblings who want to share our wealth of knowledge about music (as we both are music teachers)! So I hope you enjoy our blog and maybe you’ll learn something along the way!

5 Steps to Honing Your Natural Musical Talents

While American Idol would like you to believe that everyone with star quality is just a natural-born star as soon as they step on a stage, that’s not the truth. Sure, you can go on a competition TV program and get your 5 minutes of fame or a record deal if you’re lucky (and popular enough with the voters and judges)! Or you can do it the old-fashioned way: by working for it.

Just like any skill or study, you have to work at it. Not everyone is born with the perfect pitch and the voice of an angel. In my opinion, these television programs are actually more discouraging than they are inspiring. Sure you’re crying over some contestant’s sob story one second, but the next you’re watching some girl from the middle of butt-fuck nowhere sing her heart out on stage wishing that you could do that… but you can!

If you have an inkling of talent, you can hone that talent to become something worthy of a record deal… or at least a little satisfaction from being in a musical community.

Here are a few steps you can take to take your hint of talent and nurture it into something more than a party trick:

  1. What are you obsessed with
When you’re trying to figure out what kind of musician you should be, think about what you’re obsessed with. Think about the kind of music you like and think about what you obsess over.
If you admire guitarists, maybe you should be a guitarist. If you admire singers (and you have a penchant for singing pretty decently in the shower), maybe you should be a singer. If you write songs or poetry, maybe that’s you’re an avenue into the musical world.
  2. What do you do often
Are you always drumming on the table or bouncing your thigh? Are you always singing or humming? Are you scribbling a song down on a napkin while you compose it in your head?
Your habits are things that you’re not only good at, but you enjoy, follow those hints, and maybe you’ll find your natural talent.
  3. Find lessons, learn all you can
Most people stop at 2. If you do that your talent will only be allocated to your bedroom. If you want to make something of your talent you have to seek out information. If you can’t afford lessons one-on-one with a professional, you can find something online.
You bet your ass that you can find something on Youtube!

From there you need to find other like-minded people (I’d look to Facebook groups!) and go for it! You need to have some gusto and really believe in yourself, or you’ll never reach your goal!

4 Different Ways to Have Casual Sex

4 Different Ways to Have Casual Sex

There are so many different kinds of sexual relationships that a man and a woman can have with each other. They range from one extreme to the other – from a committed monogamous relationship to a sexless friendship.

Many think terms like “casual sex” and “sexual hookup” mean “one-night stand.” However, this greatly oversimplifies the nature of casual sex in the modern world. In reality, casual sex comes in a variety of flavors.

Booty Call.

This is sex with a friend-with-benefits or a stranger that’s arranged via a phone call or text message made after 11 p.m.—usually, because there are no better prospects and/or you’ve been drinking. The only way that booty calls meaningfully differ from one-night stands is in the frequency with which hookups occur. However, booty calls who repeat their encounters with a great frequency usually develop some degree of intimacy and may go on to become something more.

Friends With Benefits.

Unlike F-buddies, who have a friendship that develops out of sex, FWB consists of a pre-existing friendship that turns into a sexual relationship. The FWB relationship has little to no expectations of commitment attached to it, and it always involves sex. Sex is a big part of being friends with benefits, but so is the fun, social aspect, don’t forget.

One Night Stand.

Also known as “hit it and quit it.” This involves a one-time sexual encounter in which there is no personal disclosure, relationship communication, or friendship. There is no expectation of anything beyond one night, sounds easy, right?

Comfort Sex.

That one person you always end up going back to, asking to come over late at night, yeah that’s your comfort sex buddy. A bad day at work, a terrible breakup, a tragic pet death are all excellent reasons to have comfortable sex. I’m warning you, while it may feel good at the moment, comfort sex, like comfort food, will usually make you feel worse after it’s all said and done. Sometimes a pint of Ben & Jerry’s will do the trick.

No matter what type of sex – always remember to be safe!

Dating Advice

The Best Dating Advice For Women

There are thousands of magazines, blogs, shows, and books all dedicated to helping women with the dating game. Most of these publications end up flat out contradicting each other which leads women to be confused and at a loss about what advice to trust. Look no further ladies! As veterans in this field, and after doing our fair amount of research, we have compiled the best dating advice for women that you will ever read.

1. Men communicate differently than women.

Communication scholars have published research over and over again for decades that prove this communication phenomenon. Here’s the deal: men are task-oriented beings, and so is their communication. What does this mean? They look at communication as a means to solve something, to fix something, to set up plans. Women are exactly the opposite. They love to talk about just about anything, and they see communicating about relationships and love as a crucial and necessary component to dating. This naturally causes an issue when a woman wants their man to be more “lovey lovey” or more verbal with their affection. Men are there thinking; I don’t want to talk about our relationship unless something is wrong while women think something is wrong if we don’t talk about our relationship. So ladies, keep this in mind from now on. It’s not his fault- it’s just the way men are.

2. Don’t think you can change him.

Women sadly fall into the trap that they think that they can change a man to become “boyfriend material” or mold them to become their perfect match. This is never the case ladies; you will never have positive consequences come of this. The bottom line is if you’re not happy with the full person that the man you’re seeing is, deal with it or move on. You’re totally wasting your time trying to change him.

3. Put yourself first.

Women are natural caregivers and often fall into the habit of pleasing everyone around them. While this might benefit others, it often means that the woman forgets to take care of herself. Women try so hard to please their men that sometimes as a result, they get walked all over and allow themselves to be treated like crap. This is a bad pattern that happens more frequently the more you do it. Solution? Constantly check in with yourself to self-reflect and see if you’re truly feeling valued, healthy, and happy. If not, take a step further and figure out what is causing that. If it’s your relationship, fix it and change your way of doing things.

4. Ignore everything they say and only pay attention to what they do.

The age-old saying “Words speak louder than words” is famous for a reason: it’s true, and it works. Men are known for always making empty promises and coming up with insane explanations and excuses. Stop letting this slide and instead, take his actions as the actual determination of whether or not you should move forward or dump his butt.  Ready to find your next boyfriend?  Head over to and download the #1 rated new dating app for free!

Dating Tips

6 Best Dating Tips For Men

Dating is weird, to say the least. Let’s face it, when it comes to meeting the next Mr or Ms. Right, we could all do with a little help, especially the guys, am I, right girls? Guys here is how to score the ‘one.’

Be True to Yourself.

Present yourself as the same person online and offline. Women are pleasantly surprised to meet a man who acts like he says he acts. Trust is necessary and starts with being honest about superficial things (i.e. height, appearance, age, interests, etc.).

Obviously, be a Gentleman.

Treat a woman the way you’d like a man to treat your sister, daughter or someone you care about; this means dating responsibly. Be a man of your word. Be well-mannered, courteous, and respectful in your words, behaviors, and actions. Treat her how you would want to be treated, times ten.

Don’t make her ask you out.

Be the one to ask her out first. Though women lead every day in their professional lives, many of us prefer men to still make the first move romantically. If you’re interested in her, ask her out. Whatever you do, do not be creepy about it. For example, do not say “ Hey sexy, I love the way your body looks” in your first message to her.

Be Thoughtful.

Always show consideration and care to a woman’s feelings, even if you don’t mean it. Have you ever heard of, “fake it till you make it?” A woman of worth must feel connected to a man to keep a positive momentum going. When a woman doesn’t hear from you between dates, we get annoyed, and that can only lead to no good. We need and crave attention, so give it to her.

What you place your attention on becomes important in your life. Keep track of the amount of time and energy you spend working, with the amount of time you are with you your friends, dating, etc. The bottom line, dating takes time, effort, and energy. Balance your life so that you’re able to work well, date well, and spend time with friends. When your life is in balance, life flows better.

Be Patient.

Simply to put it… When it comes to get started with adult dating, patience is a virtue.

RockOn! – User’s Guide

The main screen first screen you should see will be the one above. The following is a description of the items on the screen: ObjectDescriptionSpace Station (harmonica)The space station in the middle of the screen represents your harmonica. Note there are 10 “laser turrets”, just as there are 10 holes on a standard diatonic harmonica. The turret on top represents a “blow” and the bottom a “draw” note. The laser above is a 4 blow (or +4 in tablature terminology). Notice the space station is surrounded by a thin gray line.

This is to indicate the range of your laser beam. Shoot at the closest target first to stay in sync with the music.AsteroidsThe are your targets, the bigger the asteroid the longer you have to fire to destroy. Larger asteroids correspond with longer notes.UFOSimilar to an asteroid, however, you should bend the note to play the note properly. You will notice they tend to come from below.UFO/Asteroid icon (bottom-left)This meter shows you how many targets (notes) you have left to shoot. Mini-space station (bottom-right)This shows you your shield strength. The music meter (top-right)Shows you how much music is left to be played.

Note this is slightly different than targets left, as there may be more music, but no more targets or harmonica notes to play. Music Folder (left-most side of the toolbar)Allows you to load another (midi) song to play. RockOn! is quite particular about the midi file has to be loaded. It must meet the following criteria: A track must be marked as harmonica track must have a half measure buffer must be in the key of C major must be monophonic (one note at a time)

(Although it is possible to create a song to work with RockOn!, your typical midi file will not typically be too easy to convert. Midi files built by hand, not from instrument input, will work more readily). This is due to the fact that you can simply feedback the playing music into the microphone (try it, it’s pretty cool). So, select No harmonica, or NoRecord (icon) (on/off)Off (with ‘x’) – Causes the laser to fire automatically (w/o ‘x’) – Enables gameplay using a harmonica to control the firing of the lasers. Note: You cannot “win” (or lose) a game while in auto mode. This is for a training exercise. Tempo Control (slider control)Controls the speed at which asteroids fall. Forget your joystick, use a harmonica!

Blast asteroids and UFO’s with your harmonica and make music.

Defend your space station and play music. RockOn! displays asteroids and UFO’s in time to the music. By controlling the laser weapon with your harmonica, you can’t help but play music. This encourages learning of three different areas of playing harmonica:

  • Timing /Rhythm – If you don’t  blast the asteroids in time to music, you can’t win the game.
  • Learning Songs – Any MIDI (very popular format) song with a single-note harmonica track can be played and learned by winning the game.
  • Practice Time – Just think how much practice time (and video game time) you can get in with RockOn!

An exciting way to improve your mastery of the harmonica. See results now!
